Superlite CMS

Users and login

Superlite supports multiple administrator accounts.

All users currently have the Administrator role. Superlite does not currently provide separate roles or permission levels.

Users are managed from the Users section in the administration interface.

Opening Users

Open Users from the main Superlite navigation.

The user list shows:

  • Name
  • Username
  • Email
  • Status
  • Role

Your own account is marked with You.

Each account can be either Active or Inactive.

All accounts currently have the Administrator role.

Creating a user

Open Users and select:

Create user

Enter the following information:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Username
  • Password

Name and username are required.

Email is optional.

The password must contain at least 10 characters.

Select Create user to create the account.

The new account is active immediately and can be used to log in to Superlite.

Usernames

The username is used when logging in to Superlite.

Each username must be unique.

A username must contain between 2 and 80 characters.

Choose the username carefully when creating an account because usernames cannot currently be changed after the account has been created.

Email addresses

An email address can be added to an administrator account, but it is optional.

If an email address is used, it must be unique among users.

You can change the email address later from the user's account settings.

Superlite does not currently provide password recovery by email.

Passwords

Passwords must contain at least 10 characters.

Passwords are stored securely as password hashes rather than as readable passwords.

A user's password can be changed later either by the user or by another administrator.

Logging in

Open the Superlite administration interface:

example.com/admin/

Enter your username and password and select:

After a successful login, Superlite opens the administration interface.

If the username or password is incorrect, Superlite displays:

Incorrect username or password.

Too many login attempts

Superlite limits repeated failed login attempts.

If too many incorrect login attempts are made from the same connection, Superlite temporarily blocks additional attempts and displays:

Too many login attempts. Try again later.

This protects the administration interface against repeated password guessing.

Logging out

The Log out option is available in the top bar of the Superlite administration interface.

Select Log out when you have finished working in Superlite.

You are returned to the login page.

Logging out is particularly important when using a shared or public computer.

My profile

Your name appears in the top bar while you are logged in.

Select your name to open:

My profile

From here you can manage your own account.

You can change:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Password

Your username is also displayed, but it cannot currently be changed.

Changing your name

Open My profile and edit the Name field.

Select:

Save profile

The updated name is saved to your account.

Your name is also used to identify your account in the Superlite administration interface.

Changing your email address

Open My profile and change the Email field.

The email address is optional.

If you enter one, it must be a valid email address and cannot already belong to another Superlite user.

Select Save profile to save the change.

Changing your own password

Open My profile.

The Change password section contains:

  • Current password
  • New password
  • Confirm new password

Enter your current password first.

Then enter the new password twice.

The new password must contain at least 10 characters.

Select Save profile.

If the current password is incorrect or the two new passwords do not match, Superlite does not change the password.

Leave all password fields empty if you only want to change your name or email address.

Editing another user

Open Users and select Edit next to another administrator.

You can change:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Account status
  • Password

The username and Administrator role are displayed but cannot be changed.

You cannot edit your own account from this screen. Use My profile instead.

Resetting another user's password

An administrator can set a new password for another user.

Open the user and find:

Reset password

Enter a new password.

The password must contain at least 10 characters.

Leave the field empty if you do not want to change the user's existing password.

Select Save user to apply the change.

The administrator performing the reset does not need to know the user's existing password.

Active and inactive accounts

Each user has an account status.

An active account can log in to Superlite.

To disable another user's access, open the user and clear:

The account is active

Then select Save user.

An inactive user can no longer use the administration interface.

You can reactivate the account later by editing the user and enabling the setting again.

Protecting the last administrator

Superlite prevents you from deactivating the last active administrator account.

This protects the website from accidentally ending up without an administrator who can log in.

Create or activate another administrator before deactivating the only active account.

Deleting a user

Open Users and select Edit next to the account you want to remove.

At the bottom of the page, find:

Delete user

Select Delete user and confirm the deletion.

Deletion is permanent.

Superlite does not allow you to delete your own account.

It also prevents deletion if doing so would remove the last active administrator.

Managing your own account

Your own account is handled differently from other user accounts.

From the Users list, select:

My profile

You cannot deactivate or delete your own account through My profile.

You can update your name and email and change your password.

Another administrator is required if your account needs to be deactivated or removed.

Users after restoring a backup

Superlite backups include administrator accounts.

When a backup is restored, the users stored in that backup replace the current user information.

After the restore, Superlite logs you out.

You must then log in using an administrator account and password that existed in the restored backup.
