Superlite CMS

Tools

The Tools section contains maintenance functions for the Superlite installation.

Open Tools from the main administration navigation.

The section is divided into three areas:

  • Updates
  • Backup & restore
  • System

These tools are intended for maintaining the CMS and the generated public website rather than editing content.

Updates

Open Tools and select Updates.

This section shows the currently installed version of Superlite and lets you check whether a newer version of the CMS core is available.

Select:

Check for updates

Superlite connects to the update service and checks the latest available version against the version installed on your site.

Checking the installed version

The current Superlite version is displayed in the Updates section.

For example:

0.9.0 beta.2

This is useful when checking compatibility with themes, modules or documentation.

If you are troubleshooting an installation, the Superlite version is one of the first pieces of information you should check.

Checking for a new version

Select Check for updates.

If your installation already uses the latest available version, Superlite displays:

Superlite CMS is up to date

If a newer version is available, Superlite displays the available version and provides an Update now button.

Updating Superlite

If an update is available, select:

Update now

Superlite asks you to confirm before starting the update.

The update is performed through the administration interface. You do not need to manually replace the Superlite core files using FTP when using this function.

Superlite creates an automatic backup before replacing the core files.

The update package is also checked before the new core is installed.

After a successful update, Superlite displays the version that was installed.

Updating Superlite is covered in more detail in the Updating Superlite guide.

Backup and restore

Open Tools and select Backup & restore.

This section contains two functions:

  • Download backup
  • Restore backup

Download backup creates a portable Superlite backup ZIP and downloads it to your computer.

Restore backup lets you upload a previously created Superlite backup and replace the current site data with the contents of that backup.

Restoring a backup can replace important site information, so Superlite asks for confirmation before proceeding.

Backup and restore are covered in detail in the Backup and restore guide.

System

Open Tools and select System.

The System section contains site maintenance and basic information about the current Superlite installation.

Rebuilding the site

Under Site maintenance, select:

Rebuild site

Superlite asks you to confirm that you want to rebuild the entire public website.

The rebuild creates all currently published pages again from the content stored in Superlite and the active theme.

It also rebuilds:

  • sitemap.xml
  • robots.txt

Draft pages are not published by a site rebuild.

When the process is complete, Superlite reports how many published pages were rebuilt.

When to rebuild the site

Normal page publishing already generates the required public page.

You therefore do not need to use Rebuild site after every edit.

The manual rebuild function is useful when you want Superlite to regenerate the complete public website from the current content, settings and active theme.

It can also be useful during troubleshooting if you want to make sure all published pages have been regenerated.

System information

The System section displays basic information about the installation.

It currently shows:

  • Superlite version
  • PHP version
  • Active theme and theme version
  • ZIP support

This information is read only.

It can be useful when checking whether the installation meets the requirements of a theme, module or Superlite update.

Superlite version

The Superlite value shows the CMS version currently running on the website.

You can also see the current version in the Updates section.

Use this information when a module or theme specifies a minimum required Superlite version.

PHP version

The PHP value shows the version of PHP currently being used by the Superlite administration system.

This can be useful when diagnosing compatibility problems or checking whether the hosting environment meets the Superlite requirements.

The PHP version itself is controlled by your web hosting environment, not by the Superlite Tools section.

Active theme

System information shows the currently active theme together with its version.

This makes it easy to identify which theme is being used without opening Appearance.

Changing the active theme is done under Appearance, not under Tools.

ZIP support

System information also shows which ZIP functionality is available on the server.

Superlite uses ZIP functionality for features such as backups, updates and package installation.

The System page reports the available support or indicates if it is unavailable.

ZIP support is provided by the server configuration and cannot be enabled from the Superlite administration interface.
