Markdown Import

The Markdown Import module makes it possible to paste Markdown directly into the Superlite editor and convert it into normal Superlite content blocks.
This is useful when content has been written in Markdown in another application, generated by an AI tool or copied from a system that exports Markdown.
Instead of manually recreating headings, paragraphs, lists and formatting in the editor, you can paste the Markdown and let the module convert it for you.
Installing the module
Open Modules in the Superlite administration interface.
Install the Markdown Import module and activate it.
Once activated, the module adds Markdown import functionality to the Superlite editor.
You do not need to change the theme or any site settings.
Opening Markdown Import
Open the page where you want to use the Markdown content.
The Markdown Import module adds an import action to the editor.
Open the Markdown import tool to display the field where you can paste your Markdown.
The import takes place inside the editor. It does not create public HTML directly.
Pasting Markdown
Copy the Markdown from the application where it was created.
Paste it into the Markdown Import field.
For example:
## About our company
We help companies improve their **search visibility**.
Our services include:
* Technical SEO
* Content strategy
* Link building
Start the import when you are ready.
The module reads the Markdown and converts the supported elements into Superlite editor blocks.
Converting Markdown into blocks
Superlite does not store the Markdown itself as the published page content.
The module converts the Markdown structure into the native block format used by the Superlite editor.
A Markdown paragraph becomes a paragraph block.
A Markdown heading becomes a heading block.
A Markdown list becomes a list block.
Supported formatting inside text is converted into the corresponding editor formatting where possible.
After conversion, the imported content behaves like content you created manually in the editor.
Headings
Markdown headings are converted into heading blocks.
For example:
## Our services
becomes a heading in the Superlite editor.
The number of `#` characters determines the heading level.
Keep the normal page structure in mind when importing Markdown.
The page title is managed separately by Superlite, so Markdown used as page content does not normally need another H1 heading.
If the Markdown contains an H1, review the result after importing and adjust the heading structure if necessary.
Paragraphs
Normal Markdown text becomes paragraph blocks.
For example:
Superlite generates static HTML from structured content.
becomes a normal paragraph in the editor.
Blank lines in the Markdown are used to separate paragraphs and other blocks.
Bold and italic text
Markdown emphasis can be converted into text formatting inside the editor.
For example:
This is **important** information.
can become bold text.
Markdown written as:
This text is *emphasized*.
can become italic text.
Once imported, the formatting can be edited using the normal Superlite editor controls.
Links
Markdown links can be converted into links inside the editor.
For example:
Visit [Superlite](https://superlite.website/) for more information.
becomes linked text in the resulting paragraph.
Always review imported links before publishing.
This is particularly important when the Markdown has been copied from another website or generated by another tool.
Lists
Markdown lists can be converted into Superlite list blocks.
For example:
* First item
* Second item
* Third item
becomes an unordered list.
Numbered Markdown lists can be converted into ordered lists.
For example:
1. Install the module
2. Open the editor
3. Paste the Markdown
After importing, the list can be edited using the normal Superlite list controls.
Quotes
Markdown blockquotes can be converted into quote content where supported.
For example:
> Superlite keeps content separate from presentation.
After import, review the quote in the editor to make sure it has been interpreted as intended.
Unsupported Markdown
Markdown can contain syntax that does not have a direct equivalent in the Superlite editor.
The importer focuses on converting content that can be represented using Superlite blocks.
If a Markdown element cannot be converted directly, review the imported result and correct that section manually.
The importer should be treated as a content import tool rather than as a complete Markdown rendering engine.
The final content is always determined by the blocks visible in the Superlite editor.
Reviewing imported content
Always review the result after importing Markdown.
Check:
- Heading levels
- Paragraph breaks
- Lists
- Bold and italic formatting
- Links
- Quotes
- Any unusual Markdown syntax
You can edit the imported blocks immediately using the normal Superlite editor.
There is no need to return to Markdown after the conversion has taken place.
Importing AI generated content
Markdown Import is especially useful for content created by AI tools.
Many AI tools can return structured Markdown containing headings, paragraphs, lists and links.
You can copy that output and import it into Superlite instead of manually recreating its structure.
The import does not publish the AI generated content automatically.
You can review, rewrite and edit everything inside Superlite before publishing.
Importing content from another editor
The module can also be useful when moving content from applications that support Markdown.
Copy the Markdown source rather than rendered rich text when possible.
Paste that source into Markdown Import and convert it into Superlite blocks.
This provides a cleaner transfer than manually copying each section into separate editor blocks.
Markdown and the page title
The Superlite page title is separate from the content stored in the editor.
If your Markdown begins with:
# My page title
you may already have entered the same title in the Superlite page title field.
Review the imported content to avoid displaying the same main heading twice.
In most cases, the Superlite page title should remain the main page heading and the imported content should start with paragraphs or lower level headings.
Markdown and SEO settings
Markdown Import only imports page content.
SEO settings such as the SEO title, meta description, canonical URL, robots settings and Open Graph information are managed separately in Superlite.
A Markdown heading or paragraph does not automatically become an SEO title or meta description.
Review the SEO settings separately before publishing the page.
Markdown and images
Images referenced in Markdown are different from images stored in the Superlite media library.
For normal Superlite content, images should be managed through the media system so that Superlite can handle the image correctly.
If imported Markdown contains image syntax, review the result carefully.
You may need to upload the image to the Superlite media library and use a normal image block instead.
This also allows Superlite to manage alternative text, image sizes and optimized public versions.
Editing after import
Once Markdown has been converted, the resulting content is ordinary Superlite editor content.
You can:
- Rewrite paragraphs
- Change headings
- Add or remove formatting
- Edit links
- Rearrange blocks
- Add images
- Add new content
- Remove imported content
The page no longer depends on the original Markdown source.
Saving imported content
Importing Markdown into the editor does not publish the page.
Save your work as you normally would.
If the page is a draft, it remains a draft until you publish it.
If you are editing an already published page, the existing public version remains available while you review the imported content.
Publishing imported content
When the imported content is ready, publish the page normally.
Superlite converts the editor blocks into HTML and generates the static public page using the active theme.
The Markdown Import module is not involved in serving the finished page.
Its job is complete once the Markdown has been converted into Superlite content blocks.
